After a short panoramic tour of its northern part, we will leave Rome, by the “Sun Route” motorway. We will spend the day visiting Umbria, rich in vineyards, olive groves and nice villages on top of the hills.
The itinerary is full of charming medieval cities: Spoleto (world-famous for the “Festival dei Due Mondi”), Trevi, Foligno, Spello, and the most celebrated: Assisi, the mystic city of St.Francis.
The city, still surrounded by ancient walls, lays on top of the green slopes of Mount Subasio. Its rose-stone buildings, the winding narrow streets, the noble palaces, the balconies full of flowers: everything in Assisi will hold you spellbound.
Visit of the church of St.Mary of the Angels and of the Basilica of St. Francis, with the masterpieces of Giotto and Cimabue.
It will be a pleasure to wander about, looking into the small artisan shops of the old city. Break for a genuine lunch in a typical restaurant.
After lunch we’ll visit Perugia, rich in monuments and history, economic and cultural centre with one of the most ancient University ( founded 1308 dc ).
Return to Rome
N.B.: the travel agency informs its kind clientele that the small town of Assisi is located on a top of a hill and for that reason its streets are mostly narrow and steep.
