Guided visit of Pompeii's excavations. While you walk through the streets of Pompeii, you can visit the houses with their wonderful frescoes and shops of the once resident Roman Particians who lived here before the eruption of 79.

Departure to the Vesuvius for a guided tour of the crater, where you can see the enchanting view of lava flows and Naples' Gulf. During the tour we will stop to visit a typical craft made product show room.

The eruption of the Vesuvius is famous for the first ever in detail described catastrophic eruption of 79 A.D., described by Pliny the Younger. The eruption destroyed Pompeii, Herculaneun, Oplonti and Stabiae and caused the death of Pliny the Elder among many other people.

From 18 miles (30 km) west of the volcano, Pliny the Younger, witnessed the eruption and later recorded his observations in two letters. He described the earthquakes before the eruption, the eruption column, air fall, the effects of the eruption on people, pyroclastic flows, and even tsunami. Volcanologists now use the term "plinian" to refer to sustained explosive eruptions which generate high-altitude eruption columns and blanket large areas with ash.

It is estimated that at times during the eruption the column of ash was 20 miles (32 km) tall. Within 19 hours about 1 cubic mile (4 cubic kilometers) of ash erupted . Excavaters found that much of what Pompeii looked like in 79 A.D. had been preserved by the fallen ash. A bakery oven contained loaves of bread nearly 2000 years old! Victims of Vesuvius were immortalized when their decomposed bodies left cavities in the hardened ash. The cavities were filled with plaster to recreate victims much as they looked at the time of their death.

The visit of the Pompeii ruins will be done with the guide with a minimum of 5 participants. If the number of participants is smaller, the tour will be done with audio-guides.
